On Saturday June 1, 2013, the Battenkill Conservancy will host the popular The Battenkill Runs Through It Beach & Music Festival in Greenwich, New York. The annual event kicks off the summer season at the town’s 2.2 acre community park that lies on the banks of the Battenkill just north of the Village of Greenwich on Route 29.
Traditionally, the festival has featured a line-up of popular local musicians many heard on 97.7 WEXT’s “Local 518” and a co-sponsor of last year’s festival, including Roadhouse Rhythm & Blues, a horn driven, high energy group of seasoned talent. Great food and music will be on tap through out the day as well as other river related activities including kayak and canoes rides, fly casting & fly tying demonstrations, a kid friendly science table and the opportunity to sign up for Battenkill Conservancy’s 3 day Outdoor Adventure Trip for Middle School Students. A silent auction to bid on a balloon ride that offers a bird’s eye view of the Battenkill or on a floating trip that takes you down the river will be offered in conjunction with an on-site raffle where last year an $800 Orvis fly fishing rod was the coveted prize. River friendly rain garden demonstrations and a native species plant sale are planned as are drumming circles, ice cream cones and hoola hoop competitions for all ages.
The Battenkill Conservancy will once again award its Community Citizen Award to a local resident active in civic, community, non profit and educational projects that have resulted in positive and lasting change in the community. The annual award was created last year to honor a resident whose service, actions and support recognizes the importance of the Battenkill in the community’s everyday economic, recreational, artistic and environmental quality of life.
The Battenkill Runs Through It Festival was created in 2011 as an area-wide celebration to bring greater public awareness of the river and provide outreach for Battenkill Conservancy's mission of preserving and enhancing the Battenkill watershed through education, advocacy, conservation and the River Watch program.
